Try playing the A Natural Minor Guitar Scale over an A Minor chord for a feel and sound.  The fingering is the same as A Aeolian Mode (and Ionian Mode Major Scale), just starting on a C on string 6. I can explain during a lesson or click here for the Lesson web page.

An easy way to get used to the feel and sounds is to play it like this.  Strum an A minor chord a few times to let your ear adjust to A.  Then play: 

Try out a Harmonic Minor Scale after you get used to this one.  Only one note is changed.

Speaking of letting your "ear" adjust.  Always trust your ear.  If something does not sound right, it probably isn't, but when learning something new, try it a few times before you decide it is not right.
